Short Film Project

Date

December 2022

Location

Lancaster UK

Role

Multifaceted role encompassing writing, editing, and leading as the protagonist.

"A Jar of Sadness" is an experimental short film that pushes the boundaries of emotional storytelling. It follows Lynn, who is given a jar by their therapist—one that extracts their sadness before they can feel it, transforming it into blue gummy candies. As Lynn begins to consume these candies, the film explores the consequences of detaching oneself from grief. Using experimental techniques such as stylised visuals, unconventional editing, and a muted colour palette, the film captures the surreal and disorienting effects of emotional numbness. This imaginative narrative challenges viewers to question and wonder whether happiness can truly be achieved by keeping sadness at a distance.
